Plasticity is to be shown at HWK exhibition: "Transitions: Knowledge Through Performance in Art and Science" in Bremen, Germany in October 2012, curated by Dr. Timothy J Senior, [HWK Fellow]" "In performance, the interests and values of contemporary artistic and scientific practices come closer together than we would commonly believe. With work from renowned scholars, artists and scientists, the exhibition explores these shared values, challenging our conceptions of where the boundaries artistic and scientific inquiry lie."
The Hanse-Wissenschaftskolleg (HWK) is an independent Institute for Advanced Study, the HWK promotes the disciplinary and interdisciplinary collaboration of internationally renowned scientists and young investigators by offering guest scholars (Fellows) the opportunity to concentrate on research projects for a certain space of time without the distractions of their regular academic responsibilities.
Plasticity is a collaborative artwork by Nick Ryan, Jane Grant, John Matthias and Kin Design. It consists of an array of microphones distributed across the entrance of the space and a network of speakers, arranged across the walls. The network comes alive in direct response to visitor input into the microphones and is in effect stimulated by the sounds within the environment. Read more about Plasticity on the project page.
